History

The Development of Casa del Parmigiano Since 1936

In 1936 professional dairyman Albino Aliani, his wife Romilda and son Bruno, left the Parma countryside town of Paroletta in order to open a business in Venice.  The shop, located directly in the Erberia right in the center of the Rialto market, was given the name Casa del Parmigiano (House of Parmesan) to indicate their key cheese product and to prominently denote their geographic origins.

Albino consistently offered an extensive range of high quality cheeses together with a guarantee for all of his products.  This has been a constant thread in Casa del Parmigiano’s history.  The family collaboration of the shop extended successively farther to Bruno and also to the couple’s two other children, Franco and Giuliano.  As Casa del Parmigiano’s clientele steadily grew due to the variety and high quality of the products, the Aliani’s decided to increase the shop’s visibility by purchasing a new space which would be added to the original space.

Casa del Parmigiano began offering cold cuts among its retail products in the 1960s.  Of special note were the whole prosciutto di Parma (Parma ham) which arrived whole and were de-boned in the shop.  They continued to distinguish themselves by constantly searching for only the best products, always offered at the same high level as their cheese selections.

In the early 1970s, Casa del Parmigiano reached a turning point within the business when the young Giuliano, assisted by his wife Bruna, became the sole owner of the shop.  The couple has since continued to maintain the characteristics of the small family shop with the help of one or two super-kind, courteous, and efficient staff members.  Quality and customer service together with a constant quest for new products remain top priority.  In fact, Giuliano and his wife often attend trade fairs in order to discover small cheese manufacturers and producers of other gastronomic specialties.  However, at the same time they look after the shop’s tradition which brings a very loyal clientele, always on the lookout for the excellent products available.

Since the 1980s visitors to Venice have begun to discover and appreciate the gastronomic delights available at the Casa del Parmigiano, located in the heart of one of the most beautiful cities in the world.  As such, the shop is proud to boast a healthy national and international clientele, who are devoted to the products of which the Parmigiano Reggiano cheese remains key.  Casa del Parmigiano offers 65 years of continued service and quality — being increasingly attentive to the needs of international clients who return each year to Venice and the Casa del Parmigiano.  A practical packaging service is offered which keeps the products fresh and flavorful and enables the shop’s international friends to take their purchases back home to enjoy with friends and family.

Thanks to word of mouth Casa del Parmigiano appears in many Venice guidebooks which leads new clients to seek out the shop.  New customers can be sure to find quality cheeses, cold cuts, olive oils, and wines which are wholesome and delicious.  Our products are introduced to satisfy the taste buds of the most discerning customers.
